Vocabulary

Research has shown that vocabulary knowledge is linked to reading comprehension (Braze et al., 2007; Stahl & Fairbanks, 1986), and that vocabulary instruction can lead to improved reading comprehension outcomes (Beck et al., 1982; Stahl & Fairbanks, 1986). Vocabulary instruction that provides rich context in addition to word definitions is more effective at improving students’ learning outcomes (Stahl & Fairbanks, 1986).
